Traditionally, member's ranks are tracked on a board hung in the dojo.  We have created a 'virtual' nafudakake to show each member's rank.

Testing in Aikido

Since Traditional Aikido does not have competitions, rank is given through a testing process.  Each rank has both technique requirements, as well as a 'time in rank' requirement. 

Aikido is more than 'just doing the moves'.  As one progresses in rank, one should start to demonstrate knowledge and application of concepts such as maai, zanshin, and kuzushi.

Testing provide a platform for students to demonstrate their progression - and for instructors to determine gaps within the training curriculum.
